PVT Antonio Adelaido Campos was born to Isidoro and Maria T. Campos. Before World War I, he worked as a sheepherder at the Yellowstone Sheep Company in Freemont, Wyoming.[i] During World War I, Antonio served as a Private in the U.S. Army. His service began on December 20, 1920, and concluded on August 30, 1921[ii].
According to the 1940 US Federal Census, Antonio was living in Dawson, Colfax, New Mexico, with his wife, Pirilia Antonia Sandoval Campos, his son Joe, and his two daughters, Beatrice and Patricia[iii]. Over 19 years, they welcomed five children into their family.
As World War II approached, Antonio registered on February 16, 1942, in Dawson. However, no records indicate he served in World War II. At the time, he was 41 years old and employed at the Phelps Dodge Corporation in Dawson, New Mexico, where he also resided[iv].
He passed away on April 8, 1982, in Fort Bayard, New Mexico, at the age of 81, and he was laid to rest there.
