SSGT Paul August Lemke was born on September 18, 1914 in Medford, Wisconsin. His parents were Richard H. Lemke and Agnes Zimmerman. He died on February 24, 1992. He was drafted on June 22, 1942 and was noted at the time as being married, having four years of college education, and working as a chemist, assayer, or metallurgist. Lemke was discharged on November 19, 1945.
The 1950 Census listed his occupation as Research Chemist at a Copper Mill. The census further recorded that he lived with his wife, Celeste Wilkinson, who had been born in New Mexico, his 5-year-old son Randall who had been born in California, and his four-year-old son Paul David who had been born in Arizona. They had two additional children, Eric and . He held a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Western New Mexico University. Due to the role he played in developing processes for magnetite recovery as well as processes for neutralizing sulfuric acid, Lemke was promoted to concentrator process engineer at Kennecott Copper’s Chino Mine in 1976.[i]
