US Army, General PATRICK JAY HURLEY
1883 – July 30, 1963
Patrick Jay Hurley began his military career as a member of the Oklahoma National Guard in (1914-1917.) Hurley would go onto serve in the American Expeditionary Forces in World War I. Hurley served with the 6th army Corps.
During World War II Hurly was promoted to Brigadier General in 1941. He served in the Pacific Theater. Hurley had concern for the US troops on the Bataan peninsula but was unsuccessful in pulling them out. Hurley was able to deliver food and ammunition to those troops. Hurleys’ next mission saw him as a personal representative to President Roosevelt. In 1944 he was appointed Ambassador to China.1 After the war Hurly moved to Santa Fe New Mexico where he unsuccessfully ran for Senate as a Republican against the popular Dennis Chavez.2
