Doris Louise [Johnson] Harrison was among the first to enlist as a Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service (WAVES).1 Harrison was stationed in Washington, District of Columbia and was eventually promoted to Yeoman Second Class.1 While stationed in DC, her supervisor arranged for a tour of the White House due to Harrison’s investigative skills.1
Doris Louise Johnson was born September 24, 1922, and grew up in Clovis, New Mexico.1 Prior to the US’ entrance into World War II, Harrison attended the University of New Mexico.1 During the war, Harrison met her husband, Tom Harrison, and they married in 1946.1 They had four children: Barbara, Danny, Joyce, and Dale.1 Doris served as a lifelong member of the P.E.O, “an organization [aimed at] promoting women’s education.”1 Harrison loved to travel, garden, and going to church.1 For the last six years of her life, Harrison suffered from dementia.1
