Edward A. DeJarnett (Austin DeJarnett), the son of Edward and Effie DeJarnett, served as a technician fourth grade (Tec 4) during WWII. This rank was established to honor enlisted soldiers with specialized technical skills, distinct from combat leadership.[i] Enlisting in the US Army on June 27, 1946, he received an honorable discharge on October 28, 1947.[ii]
He had two siblings: one sister, Fanchon, and his brother, Miller Ora (Buster), who died in Hawaii in 1941 while serving in the military. His formative years were spent in Drumright, Creek, Oklahoma, and he attended Drumright High School. His recognition as a local thespian is documented in the 1946 Drumright High School yearbook, a designation that acknowledges students excelling in high school theatre, both in performance and technical fields.[iii]
Following his WWII service, he had two sons with Dorothy Ray Hite in 1950 and 1953. He last resided in Silver City, Grant, New Mexico[iv], where he died at the age of 59.
