Feliciano Chavez

PFC, Feliciano, “Chano” Chavez

Birth: Feb 12, 1914
Death: Nov 26, 2018

Son of Eduardo Chavez and Dolores Lujan-Chavez of Torreon, Torrance County New Mexico who both died of the Influenza pandemic of 1918. PFC Feliciano Chavez served with the 88th Blue Devils division in North Africa, Italy, Germany, then shipped to the Pacific Philippines then Japan.1

As PFC Feliciano spoke about his service he said, “We were in constant fear, always watching out for the enemy and always expecting the enemy to attack at any time….we were constantly walking and tired. We did not sleep for days, and we had little food. We had to carry our water, a heavy backpack full of gear and our weapons. We ate army rations that weren’t always good….it was nothing like the beans and chile I was used to back home…”2
