Frederick Lincoln Ashworth graduated from the US Naval Academy on June 1, 1933 and would retire with the rank of Vice Admiral in May of 1966. Ashworth was assigned to the USS battleship, West Virginia. Two years later he was selected for flight school that he completed in June of 1936. With the outbreak of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater on the Amphibious Force Fleet. At the close of World War II, Ashworth was assigned to the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos NM, 1944. In 1949 he was commissioned, executive officer of the USS Midway. His next post was Assistant Chief of the US Atlantic Fleet, Ashworth next post was Commander of the Sixth Fleet. In 1967 Ashworth ended his Naval career as, Atlantic/Commander in Chief, Atlantic Fleet Commander in Chief, Western Atlantic Area.1 Ashworth lived in Santa Fe NM the last thirty years of his life and passed away in 2005.²
