Margaret Teschendorf (Graf) enlisted in the US Army in August 1942. 1 In 1943 she was part of the first WAC unit to arrive in Europe and was stationed in England at the 9th Air Force Marauder Base as a supply sergeant. 2, 3, 4 As the Allied Forces advanced, she was moved to France. 1 In 1945, she had been commissioned as a second lieutenant. 5 She was awarded the Good Conduct Ribbon, the WAC Service Medal, the European Theater of Operations Medal, and a battle star earned in France. 6
Teschendorf was born to Charles Teschendorf and Nettie Dubale and grew up in Detroit. After the war, she met and married US Marine Corps Master Sergeant Glenn Graf of Lockridge, Iowa. They were stationed at various duty stations around the country from Hawaii to Washington, D.C. They raised their three sons, eventually settling in Albuquerque in 1953. Other than a short stint in North Carolina they remained residents of Albuquerque until 1967. Teschendorf worked at the Atomic Energy Commission on Sandia Base from 1962 until 1967 when the family moved to Northern California. She and her husband Glenn both worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, California.
