Miguelita Jojola (Histia) enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) in Santa Fe, New Mexico on March 30, 1944. 1, 2 She completed basic training at Fort Oglethorpe in Georgia, and she served as a corporal with the 3017th Army Air Force Base Unit in Santa Ana, California. 3 Her military occupational specialty was dental laboratory technician. 1, 2 Receiving the Good Conduct Medal, she was discharged at Camp Beale, California on October 28, 1945. 1, 2

Jojola was born on March 28, 1924, in Isleta Pueblo, New Mexico, where she was a tribal member. 4, 5 Her parents were Marcelino and Maria Abeita Jojola. 1, 5 Before her military career, she worked as a welder in a Los Angeles, California defense plant. 3 On February 22, 1946, she married Myron F. Hunt, who preceded her in death. 4, 6 Her second husband was Andres A. Histia, a native of Acoma, whom she married in 1969.  7 Her military records indicate that her civil occupations were power machine operator, sheet metal worker, saleslady, and housewife. 1 Her other occupations included dental technician, seamstress, farmer, homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. 4 Jojola built her own home, which still stands more than fifty years later. 4
