Olivama Olivas (Quintana) enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps in November of 1942 and served in Las Vegas, New Mexico, as well as the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. 1, 2, 3 She was promoted to first lieutenant in 1945 and honorably discharged in April 1946. 1 She was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the American Theater Campaign Medal, and the Victory Medal. 1, 4
Olivas was born in Clayton, New Mexico to Isabelita M. Arguello and Esteban Olivas. 2, 5 She was trained as a nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Santa Fe and graduated in 1939. 6 Before entering the military, she worked as a nurse in a sanitarium. 7 She married Manuel F. Quintana. 8
