Phil Martínez was born to Luisa R. and Higinio Martínez in Chama, NM on August 22, 1931 and raised in Edith, CO and Chama, NM. Upon graduation from Chama High School in 1951, he enlisted in the US Air Force and served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. After a long and successful career as a budget analyst, Martínez retired from the Air Force in 1971 at the rank of Master Sergeant.
Following his military retirement, Phil worked for 19 years in New Mexico Environment Department. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, and a member Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2811, Elks Lodge #460 (16 years), the American Legion (21 years), and the Retired Enlisted Association.1
