Raymond joined the Navy in March of 1967. He had been in Vietnam for only two and half months. On June the 7th 1968 he was involved in a battle with North Vietnamese, a fellow Marine fell wounded, Raymond was a Navy Corpsman, ran out to tend to the Marine, when he was fatally shot. Raymond wanted to become a doctor after his service in Vietnam.
In his senior year at Albuquerque High in 1965 he won the very first La Luz Trail Run, he was 17 years old.1
