Award:
Col. Robert S. Scott was the son of Doctor James R. Scott and Alise E. Scott from New York and Minnesota respectively. The couple moved their family to New Mexico. Col. Scott would attend school including U. of New Mexico until he was drafted into the US Army in 1941. In 1942 his platoon with the 43rd Infantry helped successfully capture the Munda Point Airstrip on NewGeorgia Island during the Solomon Island campaign. Commanding 3rd platoon of “C” Company he led an attack against fortified Japanese positions. Wounded and separated from his platoon he fought off and killed 28 Japanese counter attacking soldiers allowing the eventual achievement of the objectives. He would be awarded the Medal of Honor for these actions.
