Roland served in World War I, US Army, 9 Mounted Engineer Battalion (ENGRS). The 9 Mounted Engineer Battalion was designed to provide combat and or stability operations of a brigade combat unit. The unit was organized out of Camp Stuart, El Paso Texas.1

After the war, Roland went on to become Governor of the Picuris Pueblo and Vice Chair of the All-Pueblo Governors Counsel. In 1952 he supported a bill in the House of Representatives that was “designed to give states law enforcement jurisdiction on Indian reservations.”2
